Kodak Archery Range Begins Expansion

The Town of Windsor is scheduled to break ground for Phase One of its Kodak Archery Range expansion. The range and parking lot, located on the corner of Highway 257 and Poudre Trail Drive, will have temporary closures through Wednesday, December 22 for construction.“We are excited to begin a long-awaited project that will expand our archery range and improve the outdoor experience for our residents,” said Paul Schwindler, deputy director for the Public Works Department. “As our community evolves, we aim to meet and match the needs of our residents. This project will meet those needs, expectations, and enhance the outdoor archery experience for all ages, levels and abilities.”The Kodak Archery Range, open year-round and free to the public, was built in 2018 and sits on eight acres near the Poudre Trail. Currently, it offers seven block target and 14 parking spots. During the summers, the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department offers classes for youth. The Kodak Archery Range was awarded funds from the Colorado Shooting Range Development Grant (SRDG), which is managed by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), in February 2020. The CPW grant covered $100,000 of the $130,000 total cost of the project which is split into two phases. Should weather delay construction, the project will resume when weather permits.Phase One, adds 20 additional spaces and includes handicap-accessible parking. Dates are still pending for Phase Two of the project which includes seven additional target, two raised platforms, one shelter, a new three-dimensional target course on the east side of the archery range, and fencing along the Poudre River Trail.“This project will allow us to add more classes and recreational opportunities for the sport, potentially offer league nights, tournaments and enhance the experience for archery enthusiasts,” said Logan Anderson, co-author of the CPW grant and recreation coordinator. “Last summer we added archery class to meet the demand on our waitlist. This project has been one year in the making and we are excited to break ground and begin the process.”
