SummerFest 2018 Viewpoints Program IX: Visualizing Climate Change in Photographs and Video

July 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Event Navigation

Science Speaker: Pete Seel, Professor of Telecommunications, CSU

As photographer James Balog often says, seeing is believing—a conviction that has always motivated documentary photographers and film-makers. Climate change has begun to gather its own set of visual documentarians, and Pete Seel will help us look at some of the major (and some emerging) figures doing this work. He will focus on two photographers, Balog and Sabastiao Salgado, and on the documentary films about them, Chasing Ice and Salt of the Earth, and how they work to show us the effects driven by the warming climate on the world’s iciest places (mostly in the North) and some of its driest (mostly in Africa). Come watch with us—and see how convincing some images and films can be.
