Publisher’s Letter: Happy Trails

Northern Colorado is the place to be in the summer time, and the weather, for the most part, has been pleasant, aside from the occasional hail storm. I hope this issue gives you ideas for exploring the great outdoors.

Many of us are drawn to explore the open spaces and natural areas in our region on foot (or on bike, horseback, etc.). It can be a challenge when throngs of like-minded people are doing the same thing, which is why we are highlighting some of the lesser-known trails in our feature, “Off the Beaten Path,” on page 16. The feature is accompanied by an article on page 24 with tips for staying healthy on the trail.

You don’t need to have a green thumb to appreciate the gardens that some of our Northern Colorado communities nurture. I, for one, have enjoyed seeing the transformation of Fort Collins Old Town Square from spring into summer. It turns out, it’s a year-round effort to plan the city’s numerous flower beds and container gardens. Read about it in “Fort Collins Blossoms,” on page 46.

If you’re like me, you like to stay busy, and there have been a host of events to choose from this summer. Our crew has been making the rounds of charity events. One heartfelt event that we recently attended was a luau for Zac’s Legacy Childhood Cancer Fund, which provides financial support for families battling childhood cancer. Some of us and our loyal canines walked in the Fire Hydrant 5K benefiting the Larimer Humane Society. We have many events splashed through the pages of this month’s Calendar beginning on page 54. We have more events on our website, www.nocostyle.com/calendar. Take pictures when you’re out and about and use the hashtag #nocostylemagazine for your chance to grace the pages of our monthly About Town.

We’d like to congratulate Kelley and her daughter, Alexa, for the winning baby photo in our May cutest baby contest. She won a gorgeous necklace from Sather’s Leading Jewelers. We’ll announce the winner of our June #nocofoodies contest online.

We are going to suspend our monthly contests while we feature the Readers’ Choice “Best Of NOCO Style” in the coming months. Beginning July 2, go to www.nocostyle.com/best-of to nominate and vote for your favorite businesses in more than 120 categories. The survey is hosted on a third-party platform. Voting will end October 15 and the winners will be announced in the December 2018 issue of NOCO Style. We encourage you and your friends to vote, especially if you feel strongly about a particular business.

We hope that you enjoy this issue and didn’t get any hail damage from any of these recent storms.

Happy reading,
